The Grapevine Opens Grill

by Shannon Roper

I would venture to say that most people who have a cocktail from time to time in the Uptown area have ventured into The Grapevine.

This all purpose clubby bar features the best  patio that is blocked from vision on the street level, and features a covered outdoor bar and gargantuan television for watching games and episodes of Glee en masse. For those wishing for more rowdier escapades, the compound also features a less than half court basketball court that has a galley of tables along the fence line.

Inside the smallish bar you will find an extra cold wall lined with a variety Archie Bunker-esque EZ chairs and a kick ass juke box.

The drinks are strong and the bartenders take no guff. The Grapevine has long been considered one of the better happy hours in Dallas, with happiness all day Sunday and Monday and each evening till 7pm.

One of the unique features of the bar is that until now you could bring in your own groceries for lunch or dinner. Local pizza parlors know the Grapevine well, and packages from neighboring Herrera’s hasn’t been uncommon. In fact, the building was the original Herrera’s back in the day.

This past weekend the long awaited grill at The Grapevine swung open its doors offering a small menu of burgers and tacos, and the food has already been well received.

On the menu you will find a half pound burger for $9 (add a few extra dollars to have it covered with fried crawfish), a fried crawfish taco with their mudbug sauce for $9, and even a lower-caloried chicken salad wrap for $7.

The Grapevine isn’t giving any official statements yet, but that laid back coolness seems to be their style. The grill is closed Mondays.
