Preston Nicola Gone, Enter Nick and Sam’s Grill Park Cities

by Steven Doyle

Just weeks ago I stopped in to dine at Ristorante Nicola on Preston Road. The promise of the new chef breathing valued life into the restaurant was at once exciting and full of promise. Owner Richard Gussoni had just imported CIA Hyde Park grad Justin Melnick to the Dallas area and I thought the restaurant was back on track from what had been a bit lackluster previous year.

Today I had this press release sitting in my box announcing the permanant closure of the Park Cities location. Many had reported the doors were shuttered only temporarily for a remodel, but that made little sense. Closed is Nicola, opening is a combined effort and a Nick and Sams Grill.

Meanwhile we have a very talented chef roaming the city.

Ristorante Nicola, located at 8111 Preston Road, ceased operations on Saturday, August 4. The space will reopen as Nick & Sam’s Grill Park Cities with new chef and menu in October 2012. The new venture is a partnership between Ristorante Nicola’s owner Richard Gussoni and Nick & Sam’s owner Joe Palladino. Plano-based Nicola’s Ristorante Italiano, the sister restaurant of Ristorante Italiano, will remain open and accept any remaining gift certificates held by Ristorante Nicola customers.

“In spite of the sustained success we have enjoyed for seven years at Nicola’s Ristorante Italiano in Plano our concept didn’t really transfer to Park Cities, so we are taking the space in a new direction,” said Gussoni. “We hope that those who enjoyed Ristorante Nicola will continue to patronize Nicola’s Ristorante Italiano in the Shops at Legacy for its excellent food and service.”

Nick & Sam’s Grill Park Cities is tentatively scheduled to open in early October at 8111 Preston Road. Additional questions about the space, menu and chef can be directed to Miriam Nakano at (214) 871-4444.
