Chefs Rally To Support One Of Their Own

by Steven Doyle

When Lisa Moore and Gary Jackson, both of FLUENT announced a fundraiser for long time restaurant GM Camilo Calderon who has been in the industry for many years, the community gathered. Camilo has worked at many restaurants in the Dallas area since he was a very young man, including Stephen Pyles, Samar, Dish and now at the Adolphus Hotel.

Recently Calderon’s sister passed away leaving four young children in his care and last evening a show of love was extended at DUO located at Inwood and Lovers Lane, where a capacity crowd enjoyed food presented by many area chefs that Calderon has worked with in the past.

On hand were chefs Katherine Clapner, Mark McDaniel, Ke’o Valasquez, Joel Harloff, Tim Byers, Jeff Moschetti, Jon Thompson, Scott Tobey, Justin Box who each prepared a dish to share with those that came in support of our friend Camilo.

If you wish to make a donation, you may contact Lisa Moore by emailing her at lisa@fluentdallas.com.

  1. Many thanks, Steven! We are so glad you could attend!

  2. To assist in this was a “no brainer” as far as I’m concerned. It is great to help others, I was honored to be part of it and at the top of my list of things I love about the hospitality industry, is the way others come together and assist. I hadn’t met Camilo until last night, and it didn’t matter. It just mattered that we put out some fabulous product and raised some money. And I can’t think of a better stage to “play on” then with Lisa and Jackson of Fluent, Lynae of Duo and all the other chefs (not to mention killer media like you, Mr. Doyle!) Life is short. I had a near life altering event actually occur post event yesterday. I mention this to your readers so that they “count their blessings.” As Ferris Bueller said, “life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it!”
