Dance at Central Market

by Steven Doyle

Many decades before Central Market Lovers Lane could celebrate a decade at its current location, the popular corner was occupied by LouAnn’s nightclub, a swinging dance and supper club run by Lou and Ann Bovis, who hosted performers such as Lawrence Welk and Jimmy Reed. You can recapture the fun and soul of LouAnn’s on Saturday, September 22 from 7-10 p.m, as Hunter Sullivan and his Big Band perform.

Tickets are just a $10 donation and include light snacks and room on the dance floor. A cash bar for beer and wine will be available, too. Plus, the tent is air conditioned and all proceeds benefit Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.

A Dance Contest will award three sure-footed dancers or couples in a Big Band-style ‘tap out’ contest $500 in cash prizes ($250 for first; $150 for second; $100 for third place) . So bring your dancing shoes and join the contest at 8 pm or just groove to Hunter Sullivan and his live horns and band.

  1. That looks like so much fun. I though I had been around here forever, but even I came after LouAnn’s at that location. If memory serves, I do remember a string of dance clubs and Brother’s Pizza (lots of late night’s there).
