Celebrate With Great Joy National Pie Day In Dallas

When I lived on my farm in Amish country in Kansas, my neighbors would regale us with pie. These were by far the best pie bakers in the pie loving universe, and they did their magic without the means of a modern kitchen. In return I would send over dozens of fresh farm eggs from my coop and smoke their meats for the holidays. It was a loving relationship that began with a slice of raisin cream pie. This is how all relationships should begin.

Moving back to Dallas I had to develop new pie friendships. These were possibly simpler to make as all it took was a wad of cash and the motivation to seek out the very best, and now I have a list.

The Original Market Diner starts off each day with about 25 pies of various flavors. Before the end of the day more pies are being baked to get the staff through the day. The best part about ordering pie here is that for dessert you can get a decent chicken fried steak.

pie bites

There is not a thing wrong with baby pies, especially when they come from Donna’s Pie House who sells a large variety of Pie Bites. Mix and match for an optimum taste rush.

rockstar2

When you are the King of Rock and Roll you know where to find the perfect whoopie pie. The  Rockstar Bakeshop food truck can be seen most anywhere, and anywhere is exactly where you want whoopie pies.

smoke-pie

The best thing about Smoke is their pie. C’mon, you have to agree this mile-high mescal lime pie is not only beautiful, but wacky good. This is the year of mescal, by the way.

emporium

Emporium Pies in Bishop Arts brings pie to its full elevation with their beautiful and quite tasty pies. Single slice come in these beautiful tiny crates replete with its own wooden fork. Today the gals are baking up pot pies in honor of the holiday.

pie flutin

Pie Flutin’ Pastries is the newest piemonger on the scene. You cn buy these baies online or where we first discovered them, at Uncle Uber’s Sammich Shop in Deep Ellum. They come in small, medium and large sizes. The small ones have less calories so you can eat a bunch of them!

pot-pie

Wait. Have you had the pot pie at the Grill on the Alley in the Galleria? It’s huge. Huge enough to share, but we know you won’t. You know you want a pot pie bigger than your head.

fried-pie

The Original Fried Pie Shop in Davis, Oklahoma is an undisputed champion of the fried pie. Their fresh fruit and custard fillings are house-made and devine. Now you can find these bad boys in Dallas at Bakers Ribs. Try the pulled pork version. Wow! I saw one of these fried pie shops in Hope, Arkansas and Canton, Texas recently; same folks and same pie.

dough 012

We can’t forget our very favorite pie of all. The prestonhollow pizza ordered at Dough on Forest Lane.

Nice article about Pie! Only thing I have to say is that paying $30 for an Emporium Pie is way ridiculous…they are good, but they ain’t THAT good.

  2. Thank you for including Pie Flutin’ Pastries in your pie round-up! Excited to be included with this group. Happy Pie Day to all!

  3. Speaking of pie, don’t miss the outstanding pizza pie (called flatbread) at the new restaurant in Northpark, Seasons 52, especially the shrimp, pineapple, and feta flatbread. The BEST part, their thin crust pizza is less than 475 calories.
