Film Somm Premiers In Dallas June 19 For One Night Only

sommby Steven Doyle

Many months ago we discussed the Indie Film, Somm, made with unprecedented access that takes the viewer on a humorous, emotional, and illuminating look into one of the world’s most prestigious, secretive, and exclusive organizations – the Court of Master Sommeliers and the massively intimidating Master Sommelier Exam.

Since its inception almost 40 years ago, less than 200 candidates have reached the exalted Master level. The exam covers literally every nuance of the world of wine, spirits and cigars. Those who have passed have put at risk their personal lives, their well-being, and often their sanity to pull it off. Shrouded in secrecy, access to the Court Of Master Sommeliers has always been strictly regulated and cameras have never been allowed anywhere near the exam, until now.

Directed by Jason Wise and written by Jason Wise, the cast includes Brian McClintic, DLynn Proctor (local somm who has written for craveDFW), Dustin Wilson, Ian Cauble.

dlynnWe spoke with local sommelier featured in this documentary, Dlynn Proctor and he was obviously very excited about the upcoming movie, “It’s nice to see local sommeliers get recognized. This project is incredible.” Proctor has worked at a few places such as Private Social and Cedars Social, and performed extensive work with private cellars in Dallas. He now works for Penfolds and since left the Dallas area.

We have been waiting for the film to arrive in Dallas, and we have the good news that there will be one screening in Dallas and one in Plano at the Angelika Theater, June 19, 2013. Until then, enjoy the trailer.

Here is list of other dates around the country.
