Bunnies And Springtime Refresh The Plate

As the Easter holiday approaches we are reminded about renewal of the planet, fresh Spring daisies and bluebonnets, little baby chicks and bouncy bunny rabbits.  It is also a refreshing time for new restaurant menus as they roll out seasonal dishes to reflect the new found bounty. We are now seeing ramps, morels and even fiddlehead ferns gracing our plates. This is a fantastic time of year.

We would love to make a list of our favorite deviled eggs, which are everywhere now and a definite taste we want at Easter.  You will see a new version daily at Parigi on Oak Lawn. We also enjoy the deviled eggs at Nick and Sams where there are three versions on the same platter, but particularly enjoy the caviar topped eggs.  We adore Sissy’s version as well.     Continue reading

Hey George Hamilton, They Are Opening A Zorro’s Buffet In Hurst

While researching new restaurant listings in the Dallas-Fort Worth area I noticed that another chapter of the Texas buffet Zorro’s was opening in Hurst.  This might not be typical fodder for the average craveDFW reader, but since George Hamilton is in Dallas through April 22 while on tour with La Cage Aux Folles, I thought it might be befitting that the star of the riotous film Zorro the Gay Blade check out the small restaurant chain known for daily buffet sirloin steaks.         Continue reading

Bailey’s Soter Wine Dinner

Yesterday we discussed the goings on at Bailey’s Prime Plus. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas, and I predict with the new changes  it will improve to a level that it may be difficult to score a seat in prime time. Besides the physical beauty and interesting menu, one of the best features can be found in its sommelier, Jennifer Jaco.

Jaco is one of the new generation sommeliers that will speak in simple terms (or geek-speak if you so desire)  about the wines you drink while dining with her. It has been her personal mission since joining the Bailey’s staff to improve the list and bring interesting by-the-glass choices at easy price points. She also scours the city’s reserves to find that might have been thought unavailable and snags them for our pleasure. I sat with Jaco in the past and witnessed her blind-tasting ability, and the woman is uncanny.    Continue reading
