Want To Buy A Food Truck?

lucky duckyby Steven Doyle

Operating a restaurant can be a beating. A food truck can be just as difficult, especially in the extreme temperatures in Texas. Because of this we have seen more than a few food trucks fold under the pressure. It is not for everyone, but it looks exciting, doesn’t it?

We were recently sent word from Lucky Ducky Dogs that they are dropping out at the end of August and are selling off their operation for family reasons. I will let them speak for themselves:   Continue reading

Food Truck Of the Week: Bento Box

bento1by Steven Doyle

I ran across a newish food truck this week, Bento Box. They are primarily a Fort Worth truck, but I found them in Dallas for a special event. The thought of sushi in a food truck, which in the summer can exceed 110 degrees, was at first disarming. When I spoke to the owners, chef Scott Kaiser and his lovely bride Brandi, those thoughts of odd fish quickly went away. Using the term chef generally does not apply to most food truck operators, but in this case it is not only well deserved, it is accurate.

The couple actually have a storied restaurant career and met while both were working at the Cafe Modern located in the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Scott was cheffing while Brandi worked the front of the house. Continue reading

Dosa Truck Hitting Dallas Streets This Week (It’s Vegan And Very Delicious)

dosaby Steven Doyle

There’s a new food truck in town and it is owned by the people who brought the first Indo-Chinese food truck to the DFW area, Bombay Street Food, and we have an exclusive first look at the menu. The truck will be serving 100% vegan dosas and is hitting the streets starting Thursday evening at the Sprouts on Henderson near Ross Ave. You may also find the truck Friday at the Toys for Tots food truck rally in Deep Ellum which you can find at Gaston and Elm streets.

A dosa is a versatile Southern Indian street food that is prepared with a crepe-like shell made of rice and lentils, and filled with ingredients that can be served with varying spice levels. This makes for an interesting and practical offering for a food truck, and one that fills a niche the Dallas area desperately needed.   Continue reading

Ruthie’s Adds A Rolling Crepe Truck To The Line Up

by Steven Doyle

Ruthie’s Rolling Café is a triple threat in the Dallas food truck business. In a time when more than just a few trucks are rolling up their welcome mats and high-tailing it out of town, Ruthie’s continues to expand. As with any business, longevity is given to the very best. Ruthie’s has always been known for their quality sandwiches with their first truck which features above average grilled cheese sandwiches (try the BBQ filled grilled cheese for maximum impact).   Continue reading
