Lost and Found Pinot Noir Russian River 2010‏

With less than 600 cases produced to date, here is a Russian River Pinot Noir that makes you rethink the region. Bright cranberry, strawberry, and jasmine nuances, kissed with a touch of spicebox and a blessing of 2nd year barrel, make this an “old world” wine lovers dream. This team which includes an eponymous Sonoma Somm, has knocked all three vintages out of the park. Look for this wine in select fine dining venues.

A Leisurely Luncheon Respite At Nonna

nonnaby Steven Doyle

Lunch is a precarious thing. A truly wonderful luncheon can be a harried distraction and certainly something that needs to be mapped out with great precision. The mid-day meal takes you away from your work and often can leave you drained if done properly, so something more than a small plate of pasta or a burger might be all you care to invest in this endeavor. But then there is that moment, that splendid day when the calendar is free from witches and warlocks that allows you the freedom to choose; and the freedom to enjoy a few glasses of Prosseco with your meal. That is when you make reservations to NonnaContinue reading

Sip Like A Somm: Krug Grand Cuvee Brut NV

by @wineauxdlynnp

Krug Grand Cuvee Brut NV

There is a moment when sheer glory crosses your path. She delights you. She prickles your lips. She tantalizes. She even offers a garden of flowers, and a basket yellow roses. She stays with you a very long time, long through the decades. She only gives herself to those who have dreamed of her.

Sip Like A Somm: 2011 Lieu Dit Sauvignon Blanc

by @wineauxdlynnp

2011 Lieu Dit Sauvignon Blanc

This homage to old world inspired “sauvy” delivers laser like focus and balance. Fresh lime, kiwi, and apricot with uplifted white roses, ginger and green tea. Made by a great somm in San Francisco, the wines are extremely small production and expressive of Santa Ynez and Happy Canyon terroir.

Q&A With FT33 GM and Sommelier Ryan Tedder

by Steven Doyle

We met with Ryan Tedder, the sommelier and general manager for FT33 which opens this Saturday, October 13, 2012. Tedder spent time at Stephan Pyles and more recently at Grace in Fort Worth, and is a good friend of Matt McCallister’s who is the chef-owner of the restaurant FT33. Tedder is an interesting, laid back soul who was recently married and also named the best sommelier in the state of Texas at the TexSom event in August.

Tedder is unpretentious, and loaded with charm and talent. Here is your chance to get to know the man before the restaurant opens.     Continue reading

Sip Like a Somm: 2001 Senorio de P Pecina Reserva Rioja

by @wineauxdlynnp

2001 Senorio de P Pecina Reserva Rioja

I feel now is the time to get into the austere yet mellow, and sometimes confused wines of Rioja. Made from a traditionally thin skinned variety known as Tempranillo, these wines stylistically can take oak for a long time, and a lot of it.
Brooding aromas of coffee and vanilla, followed by notes of stale leather and iron are married with dark red and dried black fruits. A gifted interpretation of one of my favorite Riojas comes in this week at an affordable price.
