Pop Diner is this new and over-the-top 24-hour diner in Uptown Dallas. One of the last tenants to fill the Borders Books location the diner serves breakfast and diner fare all through the day and in the dark stretches of the morning hours. The owner, Nik Gjonaj, is originally from Detroit where he owns a successful chain of steakhouses called Luca’s Chophouse. Detroit is where his roots are, but he now divides his time between Texas and Michigan.
Detroit has their own style of cuisine that is a different take on many items we serve in Dallas, such as the hot dog. The Michigan dog is a definite style of dog you find primarily in that state, but seldom referred to it as such. That term is used by other states to describe the steamed dog, steamed bun and a rich beefy sauce. A coney if you with chile con carne. Continue reading

A visit to Max’s Wine Dive will often net you a chance to embrace the inner oenophile, but they also have their bad boy side which serves up some interesting, if not bawdy, menu items. There is certainly that late night rendezvous with fried chicken and Dom Perignon by the glass that gives Max’s a bit of the bad boy impression. Being known as a food lover amongst your peers means that you are regularly asked where to dine in Dallas. Last week I had the pleasure of enjoying a meal with friends at Acme F&B and I can safely say this is one restaurant you don’t want to miss.
Upon entering the large front doors I was immediately greeted not only by the hostess, but also by a wonderful and enticing aroma that filled the air. I made my way to the bar in the back, enjoying the thoughtful and warm décor anchored by a large fireplace in the middle of an open dining room. The patio area is also very spacious, this night I opted for the cozy grouping of armchairs near the fireplace. Continue reading

Here the two young minds will meld in a cocktail and culinary feast for a special gathering. Consider this a party, an underground dinner, and a cocktail throwdown all wrapped into one private evening for you and a few select friends. Continue reading

New bar and grill alert for those living in uptown Dallas. Soon the weight of half pound cheeseburgers will send the uptown properties into a spiraling sinkhole as the bars nearly outnumber the residents. It’s all good, we enjoy the vast selection and know that the cream always rises to the top in a survival of the fittest sort of way.
The new restaurant is called 6th Street Bar and Grill and is located at 3005 Routh Street in the former Manhattan Pizza location. Continue reading
