The Definitive List Of The Best Hot Dogs In Dallas

chi-dogby Steven Doyle

It has been a year since we revised our best hot dog list, and the list changed dramatically. Today we have bigger and better options when it comes to the reliable tube steak, and what better way to enter into the July Fourth weekend than with a tasty dog. Check out our list of favorites and enjoy all these dogs during National Hot Dog Month:

Luscher’s Post Oak Red Hots:  You might know Brian Luscher; chef, charcuterie maven, owner of The Grape. Just last year he moved into a new arena when he devised the Post Oak Red Hot. This snappy and delicious rendition is part of a full line up of dog related bites that includes an oak smoked hot dog made with locally raised meats. You can also find hand-made accoutrements  to devise your own Chi Dog including sport peppers, spicy brown mustard and sweet and hot cucumbers. You can find the dog sold by the chef at the White Rock Local Market at Green Spot  on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, 8am to 1pm, and the White Rock Local Market at Lakeside on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 8am to 1pm. For take home goodness try checking out Bolsa Mercado and the Green Grocer.     Continue reading

First Look: Hofmann Hots

DSC05464by Steven Doyle

Hofmann Hots will open its doors this Friday but we have a sneak preview of what is to come. We also had a chance to chat up mega-restaurateur Phil Romano for his take on his new fast and casual hotdoggery.

Romano was excited today as many of his friends and colleagues filtered through the yet-to-open restaurant. He has a very hands on approach to the inner workings, and even delayed the opening an extra few weeks as he personally tweaked the menu to his satisfaction.   Continue reading

dogby Steven Doyle

We have been quietly following Hofmann Hots for months now, and last night we received a really cool phone call from one in the know at the doggery that they will definitely be open a week from today, February 8, 2013. The mystery will soon be over. We were invited to a sneak preview and will bring you back all the great information and photos this coming week.

State of the Hot Dog Report

by Steven Doyle

Do hot dogs make you lose control? All year long we have been hearing about the hot dog moving in on the Dallas mainstays such as the almighty burger and cheap-to-eat taco. We have already witnessed new doggeries (I am selling this term to Webster, so feel free to use at will) such as Bowery and Jerry’s Wood-Fired Hot Dogs that is based in California.

My friend, Chef Johnny Carino called and left me a message this morning that he had heard that Jerry’s was now in Dallas and was planning a trip to the new store soon. Carino is somewhat a health fanatic, so those dogs must be pretty damned good to motivate him to actually eat one.   Continue reading
