The Wonderful World of Pumpkins in Dallas and 10 Places to Find Them (And A Bonus To Boot)

pumpkinby Steven Doyle

We as Americans have an odd relationship with the pumpkin. Sure, we stock up on the squash as decor during the Halloween season (which according to retailers begins in August), and adorn our tables as centerpieces with them during the eventide of Thanksgiving, but as far as a true dining offering we fall short.  Continue reading

Twisted Root Now Has House-Made Veggie Burgers (Video)

twisted1

Twisted Root recently announced a new menu item for its vegetarian and vegan friends. It’s a burger that consists of black beans, ground chick peas, flax seeds, brown rice, quinoa and some delicious seasonings. And unlike many restaurants that phone in their veggie-friendly burger offerings with frozen or pre-made patties, Twisted Root is making their veggie burger in-house daily, so customers get a fresh, tasty and healthy meal that will fill them up.

Before now, vegetarians and vegans who visited Twisted Root could enjoy salads and a couple side items, but the better burger restaurant wanted to ensure that all patrons could fully enjoy the Twisted Root experience. And that means getting a hot, freshly made burger for lunch or dinner.  Continue reading

The 2014 Definitive List Of The Best Hot Dogs In Dallas

dogby Steven Doyle

It has been a year since we revised our best hot dog list, and the list changed dramatically. Today we have bigger and better options when it comes to the reliable tube steak. Check out our list of favorites and enjoy all these dogs during National Hot Dog Month:

Luscher’s Post Oak Red Hots:  You might know Brian Luscher; chef, charcuterie maven, owner of The Grape. Just last year he moved into a new arena when he devised the Post Oak Red Hot. This snappy and delicious rendition is part of a full line up of dog related bites that includes an oak smoked hot dog made with locally raised meats. You can also find hand-made accouterments  to devise your own Chi Dog including sport peppers, spicy brown mustard and sweet and hot cucumbers. The dog is sold by the chef at the White Rock Local Market at Green Spot  on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, 8am to 1pm, and the White Rock Local Market at Lakeside on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 8am to 1pm. For take home goodness try checking out Bolsa Mercado and the Green Grocer.  Luscher’s is the Holy Grail of Dallas dogs. Continue reading

Big Fat Elvis Alive And Well At Twisted Root

Big Fat Elvisby Jennifer Thomas

Today Twisted Root announced its new shake, a decadent treat that channels the King himself, Elvis Presley. The shake blends 12 ounces of Twisted Root’s creamy homemade vanilla custard with Dude, Sweet Chocolate’s Tub of Love spread; a combination of peanut butter, dark chocolate and banana; for a rich and delicious combination of Elvis’s favorite things. And for a little something extra, it has even more fresh sliced banana and two heaping scoops of Twisted Root’s roasted peanut and bacon mixture mixed in.

In creating the shake, Twisted Root owner Jason Boso called upon Dallas’s premiere chocolatier, Katherine Clapner of Dude, Sweet Chocolate fame, and he hinted that this is the first of many future collaborations for the dynamic duo.   Continue reading

A Sneak Peek At Truck Park On Greenville Ave

DSC08771by Steven Doyle

If you have been around the construction of the new Trader Joes on Greenville Avenue you may have noticed across Sears Street to the south there is a little shack undergoing some renovations. That would be Jason Boso’s Truck Park, a unique blend of food trucks, a Philly Cheesesteak stand, a bar, and a tree house. Boso likens the new venture to a super cool clubhouse not too unlike the Little Rascals might have had if they could drink booze. Also sans that whole He-Man Woman Hater’s Club thing, too. We are pretty sure there will be plenty of women carousing around the Boso club.  Continue reading
