A Walk Through Corner Market

Since moving to Dallas 3 years ago, I’ve been slowly making my way through the nooks and crannies of Greenville and finding eclectic eateries along the way – one of my favorites being Corner Market.  Right on the corner of Greenville and Morningside Ave, this cozy café is surely a treat for frequenters and lovers of M Street.  Half florist, half café and with Society Bakery directly connected around the corner, you can satisfy all your inner desires and cravings all in one spot.  The inside of the market is filled with ambient natural light complimented with vintage accessories.  Diners have the option of sitting indoors with the intricately hand-painted tiled tables or outside patio seating to take full advantage of the beautiful Spring weather Texas has been having.  However beware of crabby cashiers, often filled with angst don’t let the service ruin the experience of the good, wholesome food Corner Market has to offer.

A family-owned business, Corner Market carries a wide assortment of drinks, including my personal favorite: vintage sodas in glass bottles.  I couldn’t resist splurging and getting a Lime Jariscos, something about that bright neon green color and the feeling of a cold glass bottle against your hand just brings a smile to your face.  To make my Friday even greater I opted for the Low-Fat Sonoma Chicken Salad made with all white chicken breast meat mixed with red grapes, celery and low-fat mayo with a White Russian Truffle on top.  Oh oops, how did that get there?  Before you judge me, I ask: How does one resist the enticing truffle and dessert spread they had right by the cashier?  The rows and rows of plump, chocolate truffles whispering your name “Buy me, devour me, enjoy me…you know you want to.”   I had to you see, isn’t that what weekends are all about?

Other popular items on the menu include the Mockingbird Turkey and Apple Sandwich made with oven-roasted turkey breast, grilled apple slices, Swiss cheese with sweet mustard on honey wheat bread from Empire Bakery.  A hot favorite being Mom’s Meatloaf sandwich with a generous slice of moist meatloaf just like mom’s topped with melted provolone, lettuce and mayo on toasted sourdough ciabatta.  On weekends they offer Belgium waffles, Chicken Crepes with mushrooms and tarragon sauce, and Huevos Rancheros with tortillas, black bean, cheese, green chilies, mole and scrambled eggs.

After your meal, feel free to wander over to the floral shop and tickle your senses with the beautiful blooms and aromas — the daisies, tulips, and lilies were in full bloom.    Corner Market Florist specializes in weddings, birthdays and special occasions; I especially enjoyed the whimsical accessories tucked about the store.   Start your weekend off right and treat yourself to a lovely morning with a hearty breakfast or a vast assortment of fresh salads and healthy sandwiches for lunch at one of M Streets best cafes – and always remember a little indulgence always makes life a little sweeter.  In other words, don’t forget dessert!
