Moments ago it was announced that local food humorist Alice Laussade, known best for her outrageous Cheap Bastard column at the Dallas Observer was nominated for the most prestigious James Beard Foundation Book, Broadcast & Journalism Award in the category of humor. The particular story that won her a nomination discussed the myriad of fried foods at the Texas State Fair entitled, “Who Put Beer In My Food“. In her inimitable style Laussade tweeted “Can’t believe I’m nominated for a James Beard Award. Time to start growing a beard”.
Crave congratulates Alice on her fine work at the Observer, reminding us food-types not to take ourselves too seriously. In other nominations of local interest, former Dallas Morning News critic Bill Addison scored for his Atlanta Magazine article, “BBQ, 2010” for which he went to 58 BBQ joints in 2 months and gained 8 pounds. True dedication. We couldn’t find the full article online but did manage to stumble across a post-script about his adventures.
