Hatch Chiles and WeMe in Grand Prairie

by Steven Doyle

Hatch Chile’s are arriving by the boxcar load and the DFW area has more options this year than ever. As we reported a few weeks back, Central Market  will be roasting chiles and infusing everything from cheeses to breads, along with classes and other fun events.

Another option this year includes the Grand Prairie Farmers Market which will be hosting its second annual Hatch Chile Festival August 20, 2011 at Market Square, 120 W. Main St., Grand Prairie. This will coincide with an Art Walk that will be held from 10AM to 4PM. The Farmers Market is open from 8AM – 1PM, with Hatch Chiles being sold till 2PM.

As you may recall Hatch season is like Christmas to me, so don’t forget to buy extra as gifts.

While shopping around the market that Saturday, stop in and visit WeMe Microbakery. This wonderful source for fresh bread (including her famous Pan de Pueblo) and spreads (think pate, fresh pimiento cheese and hummus) is run by East Dallas resident, Christine Carey.  Carey raises chickens and will have farm fresh eggs  available as well.  For a full list of her items, and the list is extensive, stop in at her web site.

Actually, no need to wait for the festival, visit WeMe at the Grand Prairie Farmers Market this weekend. She is also fun to follow on Facebook.
