Lowdown on the Hoedown

by Crave Staff

This week marks the 17th annual Hoedown fundraiser that benefit’s the Dallas Farmers Market Friends who actively promote and service the 70-year old market. This year’s event is particularly special as it also serve as a tribute to its founding member, Ida Papert, who passed away this past January.

IDA Papert was considered the Queen Mum of the Dallas Farmers Market, and saw to many behind the scenes functions that keep the market running smoothly. Though Mama Ida can’t be at the event in person, her spirit and her love of good, fresh food and the people who brought it to her will always be with us. For that and her efforts, her five decades of support and friendships with the farmers and vendors and for never swaying from her commitment to the Market, the Dallas Farmer’s Market Friends are proud to dedicate the 2011 Hoedown to the memory of ‘Mama Ida’ Papert.

For the uninitiated, the Hoedown is a particularly special event that features chef stations, local art, auction packages and live music as performed by The Lil’ Blue Pills, a classic rock band. There will also be a large selection of Texas wines, spirits and beer avaialble.

The annual event will be held this Thursday, November 3, 2011, 6:30 to 9PM at the Fair Park Food and Fibre Pavillion.
