Pop-Up 828 Closes in Style

We followed the pop-up charity fundraising lounge 828 over the past few weeks and it seemed only appropriate that we bring you the final photos for the bar from last Saturday evening.

The lounge that was temporarily located at 828 West Davis in North Oak Cliff enjoyed a busy three week run that was hosted by Cedars Social’s Michael Martensen and managed nightly by the unofficial Oak Cliff ambassador, Rob Shearer. The bar was run nightly by Martensen and  Brian McCullough of the soon-to-open Standard Pour. Guest bartenders from across DFW filtered in nightly to lend a hand for the cause.

Speaking with Shearer this morning he said, “Final numbers are not in as of yet but we raised between $2000 and $2500 for Promise House. The Ranger’s losses on Thursday and Friday nights weren’t just emotionally tough, they were bad for restaurant and bar business in the Dallas area.”

Promise House embraces homeless, runaway and at-risk teens, giving them individualized support, skills, encouragement and hope to live a better life. You may make a donation to Promise House on their website.

CraveDFW attended each night of 828 and noticed larger crowds as other restaurants in the area closed for the evening allowing employees to stop in for a nightcap. The final evening for 828 turned into a Halloween themed party.

  1. Sad it’s closed but looking forward to Standard Pour. Great idea and hope more pop-ups will open in the area. Great drinks, as expected, and great atmosphere.

Great coverage for the place. Love all the photos. Think they will do this again? I went one and had a great time.
