5 Fun Thanksgiving Treats

by Steven Doyle

We scoured the city for five unusual Thanksgiving offerings to treat you with. Sure, there are plenty of pumpkin pies available all across DFW, and there are no shortages of fried turkey’s this year. But we submit this list for a few unusual items to put you in the holiday mode.

Twisted Root: Pumpkin Spice Root Beer. There are certain things in this life we simply should not do — keep a home-run ball hit by the opposing team, give ourselves  a haircut or wear a green jacket unless we have won the Masters. Until today we also felt that it was unholy to tamper with root beer, but Twited’s Pumpin Spice is the bomb. They also have a pumpkin shake and a Thanksgiving burger on the menu.

Rush PatisserieRush is closed today, but for the fortunate few that stop in the Wednesday before Thanksgiving you will find several really special holiday treats including a Sweet Potato Cheesecake with an Eggnog Chantilly.

GiGi’s Cupcakes: Finding a really good pumpkin cupcake was somewhat a chore, but GiGi has come through with something really special in her Pumpkin Cream Cupcake. Consider pumpkin cake with raisins and pecans, cream cheese frosting dusted with cinnamon and a pecan on top. I am told these will not last long. We like the 5450 Lovers Lane location.

Q Bar at Intercontinental: They clue us in on how to make a Pumpkin Martini. It’s 1 ½ ounces of Vanilla Vodka, 2 ounces Pumpkin Liquor, ½ ounce Myers Rum and a ½ ounce agave nectar. Rattle off a good shake and enjoy. Or better yet, stop in and have them make you one. S’wonderful.

Eat the World: The Lake Highlands restaurant will be providing their traditional Pumpkin Tamales once again this year. This a dessert tamale with a savory masa crust filled with pumpkin pie filling, raisins and spices. At $13 a dozen these will not last long.
