Inwood Vineyards has announced that they have produced the only commercial wine ever made solely of Dallas county grapes. The 2010 Chardonnay will be ready in a matter of weeks.
85 to 95% of the grapes are from Cedar Hill vines, the remaining percentage are from the original vines located at Inwood and Lover’s Lane in Dallas.
We stopped in to chat and taste the new wine with grower Marc Moberg and he said, “It’s turned out to be a really nice wine, very fruity. As it sits now it has some green apple, very lemony and a good bit of minerality from the oak barrels, but not overpowering.”
The wine does not have that typical super strong butteriness that you would find in some Chardonnays. Very much like a California style but with a Texas twist. This is a delicious example of the only local wine in Dallas.
There are 63 cases available, so the wine will not be available for mass distribution. You may find the Chardonnay at the winery located in the Design District.
Moberg mentioned that they will be expanding the vineyard on Inwood in 2012.
We love going to small local wineries with moderate production and being surprised by the quality!
