Vegan Sharpton Loses 176 Pounds

by Steven Doyle

We learned today from Mercy for Animals, the national non-profit that is dedicated to preventing animal cruelty and making compassionate food choices, that the outspoken reverend Al Sharpton has gone vegan.

Heavily influenced by the same decision some years ago by Bill Clinton, and advocate Coretta Scott King, Sharpton stated in a MFA release, “Avoiding meat is the way to eat for anyone with a highly charged life. A vegetarian diet has a way of absorbing the stress and gives you greater endurance. I feel like a new, improved me.”

In recent months Sharpton has been outspoken about meat-centric diets, fried foods and the dangers of diabetes, and has personally lost 176 pounds since working his diet along with a vigorous exercise program.

We asked local vegan spokesman James Scott who runs DallasVegan.com about the information that Sharpton has been releasing and he stated, “It’s interesting to see different types of “celebrities” coming out in support of vegan diets. Actors and musicians are already seen as being a little “out there,” so it’s not surprising to most when one chooses the lifestyle. But when well-known politicians and leaders such as Al Sharpton and Bill Clinton go vegan, it lends more credence to the fact that veganism is a way to live a healthier, happier life.”

For those seeking to start a similar diet regimen Sharpton says, “I tell people to practice visualization. See yourself as your best person physically and then chisel yourself into that person. You have to be your own sculptor. The hardest part is conquering your appetite. Once you give things like starches and fried foods up, you find you won’t be tempted by them any more. You forget them.”

But while we’re talking about healthy life changing diets…

  2. Wow, this story is incredible. I don’t agree with all of his politics or motives, but this article actually inspired me to start a healthier diet. If Al Sharpton can do it, anyone can.
