TacoBots Eating Dallas

by Danielle Leahy

Do you like tacos? Like really, really like tacos? Do you like meeting new people, discovering new places, and hanging out with like minded individuals? Well then join us for one of April’s Tacobot Meetups!

Space is limited so simply join our Tacobots! group page on Facebook and then RSVP to any of the three events we have going on in April. Our group page is dedicated to daily posts, pictures, recipes, jokes, and all things taco related so feel free to add your own.

El Si Hay We are venturing into the Bishop Arts District for our first April Meetup to check out the legend that has become El Si Hay. This little taqueria on Davis is consistently ranked as some of the best tacos in Oak Cliff and we can’t wait to check them out. Following the meetup we will do a mini walking-tour thru the area, window shopping down Bishop Ave and swinging by Dude Sweet Chocolate for a little dessert. After that we head to Nova for drinks and music.

The Taco Joint One of our favorite spots in East Dallas or as their website proudly states: right across the street from where shady deals are done. The Taco Joint has the kind of take no prisoners Chuck Norris attitude the Tacobots adore. And since they are only open till 2pm we are rolling out our first Weekend/Breakfast Meetup of 2012 just to make it possible. Known for their super fresh ingredients (no trans fats and no lards as well) their daily specials also include rice, beans, and a fountain drink. I can already hear their Migas Breakfast Taco calling my name. Afterwards we will work off some of those calories with a little weekend fun in the sun and possibly roll out to White Rock for the twice monthly Local Market to see the food, farmers, arts and craft on display and the maybe head to the lake for some bike riding or kayaking depending on the weather.

Del Taco Stop the presses because we have a Tacobot first on our hands. A fast food chain restaurant. And not just any chain but one from California (insert not a real taco jokes here). With the Dallas location on Skillman and Northwest Highway now open we decided that if it lives up to it’s much beloved status on the West Coast the Tacobots might finally have a drive-thru window they can be proud of (or one they at least don’t have to be ashamed of). Known for their fish taco and spicy salsa as much as they fact they also serve burgers and fries we are keeping our fingers crossed this will be a Meetup we don’t regret.

  1. Without telling my age, I’ve lived in Dallas all my life and remember a DelTaco in my youth that was on Saturn Road in Garland. The building is still there and original sign (structure)…is/was this part of the same chain?

  2. I think they were here at some point int he past. There have actually been a few in Denton and surrounding the Metroplex for years, it’s just that they are finally opening up in Dallas now, so we are gonna go check them out.

My very first job in 1979 was at a Del Taco on NW 19th street in Grand Prairie! So gald they are coming back to the metropled.
