Savor Dallas and the Importance of Proper Glassware

by Steven Doyle

In the past few weeks we discussed how a glass can make a difference with a cocktail, a beer and certainly wine.  Wines react when exposed to air, and the bouquet, body and structure of wines react differently depending on the type and shape of the wine glass used.

A larger opening means greater exposure to air, allowing the wine to breathe, enhancing the wine’s bouquet  and structure. The rim acts like a vent, releasing or trapping the wine’s bouquet within the glass.  As you sip the wine it aerates revealing more notes and bursts the flavor.

Savor Dallas  will be hosting the CEO of Riedel Crystal of America on Thursday March 29, Maximilian Riedel, who is an 11th generation glassmaker. This is a rare Dallas appearance, as he demonstrates the relationship between the shape of a glass and our perception and enjoyment of wines.
