Starting today and extending through the month of April, Sullivan’s Steakhouse will be running a Steak and Cake special where you can get an 8 oz. filet, a 4 oz. crab cake and either a wedge or Caesar salad, all for $39. I was invited to come check this out.
Sullivan’s is more like 3 different establishments under one roof: a bar/patio, a dining room and a lounge called Ringside. I showed up a bit early so I could get a feel for the restaurant and the bar was popping. Their signature cocktail is the Knockout, a martini made from Smirnoff Orange Vodka infused with fresh pineapple with an orange twist. I was worried that it would be too sweet but it tasted exactly like fresh cut pineapple with a punch. This will go great sitting out on the patio, listening to the live music. But I am here for the food.
At the media table, there were a couple of appetizers ready when we got there, the seared ahi tuna and Philly cheese steak egg roll. Both were good, but the highlight was the crab cake. Sitting in a thick Cajun cream sauce, it was full of crab with just a touch of corn and red pepper to spruce it up. After just a couple of minutes, the crab cakes disappeared from the table, a testament to the taste.
Before the steaks came out, we were introduced to the new Sullivan’s Napa Cabernet Sauvignon made by the Foley Group and Matthiasson Family Vineyards according to Benson Kelsey, director of Social Media for the Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group. It had a deep purple core, sweet tannins and full of plums, currants and blackberries. Think of it as an upgraded Napa version of 14 Hands. It worked well with the filet. With a strong salt and pepper crust, the steak was good. Looking back, the steak and cake deal is a fairly good bargain and adding the salad in is icing on the cake. Just make sure to save room for dessert.
After the steak, we went into the Ringside lounge to enjoy some coffee and dessert. While I am a sucker for bread pudding and they make a pretty good version here, the best was the chocolate peanut butter pie. It was extremely rich and peanut buttery delicious. Overall, if you haven’t had a chance to try Sullivan’s yet, this April Steak and Cake deal is a good opportunity to get a feel for what they offer.
