The Stand Up And Delivers Burgers, Beer and Smokes

by Steven Doyle

Brightly lit both day and night, the clean and funky Stand on McKinney Avenue is a fun trolley stop away for those in Uptown Dallas. The Stand isn’t a throwback to a Stephen King novel, but instead an homage to the State Fair food that Dallas seems to crave year around.

Offering burgers, dogs and wings and so much more, the Stand looks to have fun while there neighbors on McKinney seem to take themselves so much more serious.

With such offerings as walking Frito pie (the Bag It Up), stadium nachos (yes, THAT cheese), and the home-made Coney Corny Dog, the food satisfies our inner child especially when topped off with a fried Twinkie or fried sliced of pumpkin pie.

Co-owner Brad Priebe says he likes to have fun with this business, and thought of the idea while working as General Manager at Frisco’s Dr Pepper Arena. Priebe is very familiar how this type of operation works having been in the business for many years with stakes in bars and restaurants such as Coach Joe’s Sports Grille, Suede Bar and Grill and The Dragonfly.

Another interesting aspect to the Stand is the fact that they deliver. You can certainly have any menu item delivered with a $15 minimum, but also a pack of smokes or a six pack of beer. The goods are delivered on a tiny scooter, but that program is on hold after an accident demolished the bike. A new scooter is on order and will be back in operation within a few weeks. Until then your cigs will be delivered with a traditional automobile.

If you are out running around Uptown be sure to stop in for a damned good burger, or just watch out for a scooter full of groceries. Also from 2 to 4pm this Saturday the Stand will be auctioning off your chance to be immortalized on the mural found on the side of the restaurant. On hand will be Mike Modano who will represent the Mike Modano Foundation which is the beneficiary of the auction.
