Common Table has planned and been selling tickets to the Untapped Beer Festival which will take place September 8, 2012 and feature indie beer along with a host of indie music including the Givers, The Antlers, Akron/Family, Burning Hotels, David Dondero and Fish Fry Bingo. The festival was originally slated to take place at and in front of The Common Table as a block party, but the festival has taken a life of its own as organizer Corey Pond believes it will simply be an easier proposition to have it at a larger venue.
The festival has been moved to Trinity groves and should be one of the first events to take place in this magical place just on the other side of the Calatrava-designed Margaret Hunt-Hill Bridge.
“The concept is quality over quantity. We actually had to work on this to get the list of beers down to right at 130. About one-third of the beers at the event will be special seasonals and hard to get in the state of Texas. Some will even be specially brewed just for this event,” said Pond in an exclusive interview.
Depending on state approval Four Corners Brewery, which is located in Trinity Grove, will be premiering at this beer event. There is a heavy discussion about the Design District’s Peticolas Brewery is presenting their first cask beer at the event as well.
Deep Ellum Brewing Company says they will have a special beer for the festival, a green tea Japanese Sorachi Ace hop brew.
“We just finished filling the casks and it takes two weeks for the beer to be properly conditioned,” said DEBC marketing ninja Tait Lifto.
The process behind this beer is to take Deep Ellum’s IPA and blend that with the super hops and green tea. The casks are much smaller than a typical keg, so this beer will not last long. Lifto believes only a single cask will be reserved for the festival and most likely will be offered in the VIP section at the event.
VIP tickets are being sold that will allow beer nerds to gain access to the event one hour before the general public. VIP also allows for in and out access, as opposed to general admission which is a one-time entry for the day which will start at 11am for VIP and last on into the evening and finally wrapping up at 10pm. General admission opens at 1pm.
There is a dicussion that the VIP ticket holders will also be allowed to tour the Four Corners Brewery.
