by Crave Staff

Oak Cliff’s newest sports bar – PhD –opens for dinner at 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 19 offering good food, great prices and the best seats in Oak Cliff to catch a game.

“After realizing that Oak Cliff was missing a solid sports bar, I thought I should bring Pour House to Dallas,” says PhD and Fort Worth’s Pour House owner Eric Tschetter. “I’m looking forward to PhD becoming the neighborhood sports bar in Oak Cliff.”

PhD will have Pour House favorites like the Pour House Burger, fresh ground U.S. choice sirloin served with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, sautéed mushrooms, grilled jalapenos, bacon & American cheese, the PH Ultimate Grilled Cheese, smoked provolone and cheddar cheese with avocado and grilled tomatoes, and PhD originals like the King Ranch Chicken, a soft, slightly spicy, cheesy mixture of tomatoes, flour tortillas, chicken and cream with sautéed peppers and onions.

Complete with a large, dog-friendly patio, an open-air bar and plenty of TVs, PhD is the perfect place to watch a game and enjoy a delicious meal. While waiting for its liquor license, PhD is BYOB with a $5 set up fee.

Beginning Saturday, September 22, PhD will offer brunch every Saturday and Sunday serving items like the Pour House Hangover Huevos Rancheros, two flour tortillas topped with refried beans, cheddar cheese, spicy ranchero sauce, chorizo and eggs over easy and the Hangover Burger, bacon, grilled jalapenos, cheddar cheese, habanero mayo and a fried egg.

Im glad to see a new sports bar in Oak Cliff…Will you hours vary depending on the game coming up ?

    • Eric

And we look forward to having you come in!
Until we get our TABC License, we will close at 10 pm. Unless of course there is a huge game on!

  2. Five Dollar Setup

$5 set up, really? I’m not going to pay $5 for a set up and bring my own booze simply because the owner can’t get a liquor license because of TABC violations at his other bar. I’ll go elsewhere and pay for an actual cocktail.

    • That is actually a good deal. One set up means multiple drinks.

      • Five Dollar Setup

With your own booze that you bring to a bar which would have their own booze to sell you if they didn’t violate TABC regulations.

    • Eric

Well, look at you go … There is no set up fee if you want your beer to get warm. The $5 is for a bucket of ice to keep your beer and wine cold.
The frosty pint and wine glasses are free.
      Hope to see you soon!

It sounds like your issues are a little bigger than a $5 setup fee. What an ass!!!

WOW – what a horrible crime for anyone to dare charge a set-up fee to bring your own alcohol. Its like they are the first ones to EVER do this. What a horrible concept in order to create a business that keeps people employed and pays their taxes. Don’t forget the offense of helping to rebuild and clean up a historic part of Dallas, or to generate revenue for the neighborhoods around them. And of course it’s completely the business’ fault and in no way any part of the challenge that is dealing with the TABC in general.

    • And u go elsewhere and pay $4 for a beer+service when u can not bitch about it, pay $5 for a set up and the price of ur beer to enjoy if day.. People bitch about the smallest things. It’s no EXTRA work for u.. Get over it and appreciate the owner setting a sports bar up in ur location to sefice ur needs..

Will they have NFL Sunday Ticket and Red Zone, with all games playing? I see that they are closed 3-5 on Sunday, which doesn’t make sense for a “sports bar”!!! ((Not to mention midday Rangers games, golf, etc!))

  4. MIght be a good place for a World Series game – the hours are odd for a sports bar.

  5. Sharme

Isn’t there a Pour House on Skillman just before Live Oak? Any relations?

  6. Five Dollar Setup

A good deal is ordering a cocktail at a bar and getting an actual cocktail.

  7. Looks like Five Dollar needs to find something else to with “her” time!!!!! Or maybe Five Dollar is broke!!!!!!

  8. By the way, I ate there yesterday. Baja tacos were awesome. Oh, that is if you have more than $5 dollars. They guy is opening an new resturatant in our neighborghood so either you – Five Dollar- are a jackass or you are a cheapass!!!! Either way, try it out or not and then shut up!!!!!

So excited about your new PHD. From those of us in Fort Worth that have loved PH for years….great food, great sports, great people! You all will LOVE it!!!!!!!

  10. Way to go Eric! One less thing FW can brag about having that Dallas doesn’t… A Pour House. I’m coming over to check it out soon.

I can’t wait to try it out! I live near the Bishop Arts District and while visiting friends in FW years ago went to the Pour House and loved it! Glad there’s new competition in the B.A.D. and an actual sports bar. I’m sure I’ll be there before the week is over.

  12. Disappointed

So excited for this idea. Too bad my first impression is screwing the customer with a $5 set up fee for BYOB. Could have walked there for dinner for Monday Night Football. Now won’t be going for months. Well done!!

    • Eric

I am TOTALLY not understanding what you are disappointed in. The $5 set up fee is ONLY if you want us to bring you a bucket of ice to keep your beer cold. If you do not want that, all you have to do is bring in your beer or wine set it on your table and ask for a cold mug. The cold mug is free. if you do not want a cold mug, that is up to you. We are not asking for $5 to walk in the door. So, please come on up. Bring what ever you want to drink and drink it for FREE while watching the game and enjoying great food.

There is an awesome new sports bar in our neighborhood and you guys are bitching about $5 to bring your own? Do you know how stupid you sound? If you can’t afford to pay $5 to save probably $10 dollars you should not be going out in the first place. Welcome to North Oak Cliff PHD the true residents of the area are glad to have you.

  14. Five Dollar Setup

Scott, there is an awesome new sports bar in our neighborhood that’s not really a sports bar. You can go to the liquor store and buy your poison there, then stop at the sports bar and drink your hooch you purchased at the liquor store. A freakin’ bar sells drinks. This is like going to a cheap friend’s house. This is not a bar, do you know how stupid you sound?

    • There are more than a few bars in Dallas that do the $5 set ups, and it is an interesting way to go. We will look into several venues that do this and run a story soon.

In a set up you get what you pay for. Service, glassware, ice and mixers. There is nothing wrong with this, and actually is quite fun and economincal.

Now now boys … We opened so the great people of Oak Cliff could taste our awesome food. I could have waited until TABC decided to give us our liq license, but why? We were ready to go. We were done remodeling, the staff was hired and trained. So in the best interest of my staff, the peolple of Oak Cliff and everybody, Ioppened with a BYOB policy. I am very sorry that this bothers you so much, but hopefully the gracious people of the Cliff and surrounding area’s see the situation in a different light.
I am AMAZED that there is even any discussion on $5 dollars!
I mean for $5 you get your beer or wine on ice, glasses and service.

The Pour House is awesome! We have eaten there several times already and I have to say everything has been great! I am very happy to find a place in the neighborhood that serves up a great salad and has 4-5 salad varieties to choose from. SO… if you are not interested in paying the five dollar set up fee, just go and enjoy some good food!
