Babb Brothers BBQ Opens In Trinity Groves Nov 29

by Steven Doyle

Saturday evening Dallas had a glimpse into the first strike restaurant in the Trinity Groves area of West Dallas located at the foot of the new Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.  The night brought a foreshadowing of Babb Brothers BBQ which opens to the public Thursday, November 29, 2012. The large structure serves as the BBQ headquarters for Trinity Groves, the first of many restaurants and entertainment venues that will make up the new area created by restaurateur Phil Romano and company.

Babb Brothers owner Mike Babb was on hand and played perfect the role of host and blues singer. A crowd of just over 100 friends and family showed up for dinner and a show, and Babb was more than pleased to croon on into the night.

On the Babb menu you will find sturdy BBQ favorites such as brisket, ribs and sausage, but also home-style sides such as collard greens and creamed corn which should separate this restaurant as more of a soul food operation.

The venue has a very large patio area in back replete with about a dozen of picnic tables on the ready for anticipated crowds.

Area restaurateurs were spotted along with Phil Romano, including a few other early adopters such as Sharon Van Meter owner of the newly opened 3015, Bob Sambol who is opening Hofmann’s Hot Dogs mid-December, and Kent Rathbun who mentioned he is considering opening a spot in Trinity Groves.

We spoke with Mark Brezinski who is best known for opening restaurants such as Tin Star, Pei Wei and more recently Velvet Taco, who said that he will be assisting the new restaurants as part of the opening team. That seems to be where Brezinski’s talent culminates and he was most excited to see Babb finally coming to fruition.

While at the event we were able to track down a number of the new restaurants to open in Trinity Groves and will be reporting on those soon. We also heard that Hofmann’s Hot Dogs has plans for future stores in the DFW area including Plano, Southlake and Preston Center, and will eventually have as many as 15 units spread across North Texas.

Trinity Groves is also actively seeking a top notch sushi restaurant to take one of the spaces available.
