The Second Annual Big Texas Beer Festival, which is hosted by two very special local beer enthusiasts Chad and Nellie Montgomery, was a wailing success. The festival which takes place in the Automobile Building at the Texas State Fairgrounds brings in a slew or brews from around the country. This year over 400 beers were on the ready to be sampled, and we went through a majority of them two ounces at a time.
The $35 price of admission gave each reveler a punch card good for a dozen samplings, and a small glass for tasting. For an extra two dollars you could grab another round of twelve, making the day inexpensive and fun.
There were plenty of food trucks offering drinkers relief from the beer, and they could sit and enjoy the bands that played throughout the day. Free cheese plates from Scardello was much appreciate, as well. The bands included The O’s and Fish Fry Bingo, which is the unofficial band for every brewery in North Texas.
The beer represented was amazing, of course, but we were especially pleased to find the latest brewery, Martin House from Fort Worth, on hand with their special taps flowing. Look for this up-and-coming brewery with their Imperial Texan that is making the buzz both literally and figuratively across the city.
We were also impressed with the offerings from Guadalupe Brewing from New Bruanfels who was in town with their Belgian Style Texas Honey Ale. The beer was smooth with a slight after sweetness that made it an excellent for the coming Texas heart.
Long lines for the local guys at Deep Ellum, Community, Four Corners, Lakewood and many others flowed quickly and was much appreciated. We also enjoyed the hour long ride on the mobile kegarator from Four Corners. We needed the work out.
