Restaurant America seems to be pulling up roots in Dallas. The Chicago based restaurant group came to Dallas in a storm opening up restaurants across the city with promise of even more. The first casualty was the Mockingbird Taproom, which we found a bit sterile. That restaurant closed just months of opening and was located in Mockingbird Station.
Local food blog Side Dish reported last Friday that the Townhouse Kitchen + Bar in the Galleria was locked out for an apparent non-payment of rent. Then a flood of reports came to us about the very new Boca Chica closing. We actually had a report that was to run on Boca this week.
A survivor remains in Park Tavern which appears to be going strong. However, we did get a report that Central Standard had halted construction and most likely will not open. Central Standard was the time zone centric restaurant that was to open in the Design District.
Interesting enough, the corporate chef for Restaurant America, Paul Niekrasz, jumped ship months ago and is alive and well at HG Sply Co. on Greenville Avenue. Perhaps we can talk him into making the Townhouse bacon donuts for us.
Our contacts at Restaurant America have not returned our calls as of today, but when we have more information we will be sure to report our findings.
**Update: Bud Kennedy reminds us that there are two Restaurant America concepts under construction. Kennedy reported last week that that the Park Tavern sign has been up for some time with no activity as far as construction.
