Lyft Makes Dallas Debut This Friday

Had a few too many of those Craft cocktails on McKinney Avenue, or brews in East Dallas? You are more than likely at risk for some hot police action, and best grab a cab. But those cabs smell bad and generally never show up. You know the routine. That is where Lyft comes into play. Lyft is the super cool peer-to-peer ride service that is controlled via an app on your smartphone.

Based in San Francisco, this ‘donation-based’ service uses your average citizen to man their own cars for ride, and generally costs 30% less than a cab. Drivers are said to earn $30 to 40 an hour. This is no small time operation, the privately held firm recently raised a whopping $83 million to fund expansion, and as you might have guessed, Lyft is coming to Dallas in a big way.

Safety concerns with the drivers are quelled through a heavy process that includes background checks, interviews and inspections. The cars are outfitted with fuzzy pink mustaches, and you will always be greeted with a fist bump.

Lyft is rolling out a preview party this Friday and guests will receive a $50 credit towards their first ride(s). Go register, download the app, then report back after you have tried this fanciful new car service. The party will feature live music, an open bar and beer fro Deep Ellum Brewing Company.  Here is where you sign up for the party. This is where the app is located. And here is where you apply to be a driver.
