Lunching At Chino Chinatown

By now most of you have heard of the Trinity Groves project located just over the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge (affectionately known as Large Marge). I know this because most evenings require a reservation to beat the growing population that are clamoring to dine on the boardwalk that contains seven lovely restaurants. But what most don’t know is that nearly every restaurant is open for lunch and they are spreading great deals on the same cuisine you find in the evening. That means if you work downtown you can make a 3 minute drive (including the free parking) across that beautiful bridge and dine like kings.   

I did just that recently when I made my way with a few friends for lunch at Chino Chinatown, the engaging Latin-Asian fusion restaurant directly in the middle of the entrance to Trinity Groves. Here we were met by owner Chef Uno who always has a presence in and out of the kitchen daily, along with her partner Adrian Verdin. On this day we were able to order the newest hot item on the menu along with some pretty terrific standards. We will be visiting more of the Trinity Groves hot spots to share the luncheon favorites in coming weeks.  Let’s take a gander at what we selected that day.

New to the menu, hanger steak, lemongrass chimichurri, served with a side of duck fat fries

Our favorite duck fat fried rice with shrimp, Chinese sausage, bbq pork and a sunny side up egg

Flank steak drunken flat noodles

Sea bass with miso, cilantro, Thai chilies, and Chinese broccoli 

The class favorite, elotes with sriracha aioli and queso fresco
