Proof + Pantry To Open In One Arts Plaza

One Arts Plaza - Dallas, TXby Steven Doyle

Since departing with his bar crew from Smyth and Cedar Social, James Beard nominated barmen and restaurateur Michael Martensen has been promising major announcement that would be a deal changer in Dallas. Today we were sent word of his latest concept that will open early summer of 2014 in the former Greek (and Commissary) in One Arts Plaza.  Proof + Pantry’s drink menu will feature a collection of carefully selected spirits and wine showcasing the restaurant’s dedication to “diversity and originality”.

“The Proof + Pantry team is incredibly talented and their menu is one you could dine on every night. Our tenants, residents and Arts District patrons can look forward to delicious food and craft cocktails at the end of a long day or before and after enjoying a show. We are thrilled to have them,” says Lucy Burns, Partner, Billingsley Company.

The 1900-square-feet space in One Arts Plaza is in development by Misery Loves Company, LLC (Misery Loves Co.) a concept development, management and operations company co-founded by Sal Jafar II, co-founder of Driftwood in Oak Cliff, along with Martensen.

“We hope to bring vibrancy and excitement back to the Arts District’s dining options with Proof + Pantry,” adds Michael Martensen, Co-Founder, Misery Loves Co. “With a high energy bar and excellent food program, we’re confident that Proof + Pantry is what the Arts District has been waiting for.”

Martensen also promises together the old Smyth and Cedar bar crew.

With the exception of Tei An, the spaces in One Arts appear to be near vacant on most evenings despite the upscale residents in the attached building and the surrounding area. the Billingsley Company is promising more additions like Proof + Pantry which should raise the excitement level to what otherwise has become a mundane corner in the Arts District. And there is one thing Martensen has proven with the success of Smyth: if he builds it, they will come.
