The big news racing the interwebs today is that Omar Flores and John Baudoin have sold their stake in Oak Cliff’ Driftwood to partner and co-founder Sal Jafar II. Jafar will be tapping chef Kyle McClelland, who most recently ran the kitchen in Brooklyn at Prospect. You may recall McClelland who worked with Jafar’s partner, Michael Martensen, at his restaurant Cedar Social.
Meanwhile, Flores and Baudoin will be concentrating more on Trinity Groves with a new concept called Sugar Skull Cafe and their James Beard nominated tapas restaurant, Casa Rubia.
“Joining the Driftwood team is an incredible opportunity and I’m excited to be back in Dallas,” says Chef McClelland. “I’m looking forward to getting into the kitchen and sharing my food with Dallas again and Driftwood’s loyal customers. Growing up in Boston, I’ve spent a lot of time in Cape Cod. I’m excited to bring my East Coast seafood influences to Driftwood.”
Chef McClelland will make his official debut at Driftwood April 23 with a champagne dinner in partnership with Champagne Salon. More details, including pricing and menu, for the dinner coming soon. Chef McClelland will also present a new spring menu in the coming weeks.
