Labor Day weekend comes early this year, and we will be starting you off right on Saturday the 30th with some beer, barbecue, and fun in the sun for $100 or less.
Deep Ellum Brewing Company offers a weekly Open House tour of the brewery every Saturday. For $15 a person, you get 1 DEBC pint glass, 3 beers, beer samples, tour of the brewery, live music, and available food trucks on site. Doors open at 12pm on Saturdays with last call at 2:30pm. For those who wish to take the tour, be on the brew deck at 1pm or 2pm. The tours typically last about 20 minutes but with drinking before and afterwards. Deep Ellum Brewing Company is located at 2823 St Louis Street in Dallas on the south side of Deep Ellum. It is recommended that you wait to eat and do not take advantage of the available food trucks, because your next stop Pecan Lodge is just a stone’s throw away.
Have you been dying like many to finally try the nationally renowned Pecan Lodge? No longer do you have to wait for hours at the Dallas Farmers Market in the hopes of there still being enough delicious barbecue once your turn in line. Pecan Lodge has opened a larger and more efficient location at 2702 Main Street in Deep Ellum, and now it is your turn to enjoy.
We suggest ordering a half pound of brisket for $10, the Southern Fried Chicken which is two pieces of hand battered chicken served with your choice of one side and a roll for $9, The “Hot Mess” which is jumbo sea salt-crusted sweet potato, South Texas barbacoa, chipotle cream, cheese, butter, and green onions for $9, and a standard side of their legendary Mac ‘n Cheese with bacon and green chilies for $3. You can dine in, or bring a cooler and ice so that you can savor this succulent feast once back at home, for your next stop is The Fraternal Order of Eagles for some drinks by the pool.
The Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge Number 3108 is family oriented; the majority of proceeds are donated to charity, and is open to the public. This secluded Dallas gem known to many as the F.O.E. is in the heart of the Forrest Hills neighborhood on the east side of White Rock Lake at 8500 Arturo. Driving up, you would not expect such a great time to lie ahead as Arturo Drive looks like a scene from Camp Crystal Lake, but do not fret. There is an Olympic-sized pool, kiddie pool, a volleyball court, playground and sandbox for children, two outdoor bars for us grown-ups, and basic grill items like cheeseburgers, hotdogs, and fries.
The drinks are strong and cheap; just don’t take them in the pool! This non-judgmental environment is a welcome change from the typical pools you find in Dallas, and is always a great source for people watching. They have $1 Jell-O shots that actually have alcohol in them, so be sure to have a few each while also enjoying some inexpensive Lone Star drafts for $3 each. Entrance for non-members is $7 each.
