Those crazy Australians are off their rockers with a new Pizza Hut pizza that is encrusted with the nacho cheese chips. The Doritos Crunchy Crust pizza has a mozzarella cheese-stuffed crust layered with nacho cheese Doritos chips and cheddar cheese. This follows suit with the huge make over at Pizza Hut which now offers some unusual samplings of their pies, including their Pretzel Piggy, Cock-A-Doodle Bacon, and a Sweet Sriracha Dynamite that defies most sensibilities.
The later pizzas I mentioned above are all on the menu worldwide, but the Doritos pizza is only served in Australia at this time, with talks of it making its way to the States soon. You now, because we love Doritos on our tacos, pizzas. Someone is doing some quick step marketing over at Frito Lay in Plano.
“Why Doritos? Well it is a globally loved brand and they have the best corn chips to deliver the ultimate crunch,” Pizza Hut Australia head of marketing and innovation Fatima Syed said in his press release. “We know from research how big an impact the crunch sound has on one’s appetite.”
Pepsi-Co owns both Frito Lay and Pizza Hut. They also own Taco Bell who came out with their Dorito taco shell that sold like mad in 2013. Pepsi-Co holds other brands, including Rice-A-Roni, Cap’n Crunch and the Aunt Jemima products. Will we soon enjoy a Dorito Nacho Cheese Rice-A-Roni, or Aunt Jemima Chipotle Ranch Dorito pancake? My crystal ball says possibly.
As for this guy, I will stick to some of my favorite pizzas in town, including Dough in North Dallas and Pizzeria Testa in Frisco.
