Start, a cutting edge fast-casual concept created by Erin McKool, focused on pure, organic and all-natural menu items, will open its second location tomorrow, Wednesday, January 7th at 4023 Lemmon Avenue in Dallas, Texas.

Start serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner, crafted from pure ingredients, but offered in a quick service format. Organic and all natural ingredients are critical components to Start. Eggs, milk, sugar and many other items are always organic. Start only uses meats and eggs from humanely raised animals and will never use products that are raised on hormones and antibiotics, or treated with nitrites. They offer 100% grass-fed hamburgers, from local favorite, Burgundy Pastures.

Bakery items are made with whole-wheat flour, and they also offer gluten-free baked goods. For the thirsty, Start offers fresh-squeezed juices and smoothies. Beer and wine are available as well. Catering customers are treated to customizable menus. The artisan coffee and espresso they serve is roasted locally at Full City Rooster, in the most environmentally efficient roaster available in the world.

Owner, Erin McKool says, “We are thrilled to be opening store #2 in the Oaklawn neighborhood. Our menu will be the same as the Greenville Avenue location, focused on pure, all natural and many locally sourced ingredients. We are launching one new brunch item with the Lemmon opening: our sweet potato cinnamon roll! Also, the extra space provided by our Lemmon site allows for roomier parking and a dedicated exit lane for drive-through traffic.”

Start, opened in August 2012 on Greenville Avenue in Dallas, was created by McKool to meet the growing demand for healthy, from scratch food, in a quick service environment. While organic and natural foods are becoming more available in full-service restaurants, it is virtually impossible to find anything organic (or even scratch-made) in a drive-through.

McKool explains, “What’s more, ‘healthy’ doesn’t always equate to ‘tasty’. Our focus is not on diet food; rather, we are offering our guests their favorite foods, only smarter: artisan, local and responsibly grown and roasted coffee blended with only organic milk (or organic soy or almond milk); burgers made with local, grass-fed beef, salads with house-made dressings instead of squeeze pouches; house-made mayo made with organic, cage-free eggs; wraps in locally baked, whole wheat tortillas; kids’ favorites made with clean, wholesome ingredients; several gluten-free options and plenty of vegetarian options as well. We’ve also thrown in a few of our own originals, like our curry veggie breakfast sandwich, our flaky, baked empanadas and our new sweet potato cinnamon roll.”

The name, Start, was selected to inspire the community to take a first step toward eating better on the run. McKool believes there is a growing demand for quality, thoughtfully prepared food from quick service restaurants. Her dream is to start a trend that remodels fast food. McKool says, “What could be better for Dallas than a drive-thru that serves a local, grass-fed hamburger and a healthy kids meal?”

Now if only their millionaire owners would get the construction people who built their restaurant paid.
7 months later, still waiting to be paid……
