Melis For The Best Tacos In Fort Worth

Off the beaten path and sometimes hard to see the signage, Melis is tucked away off Vickery Blvd and there you will find some of the best tacos in the Fort. Ok, they could well be THE BEST tacos in the Fort. Locals know about Melis but it’s still kind of a secret go-to spot when you have a craving for some real Mexican tacos al pastor. Open from 6am until 10pm every day, you can pretty much get your fix whenever you need it.

Melis offers up the all the traditional meats like chicken, steak and pork in all their tasty Mexican variations but the lengua (beef tongue) is truly worth a try. You can get breakfast tacos at any time so don’t pass up on the chorizo and egg. Another item to try is the relleno which is not over-battered and seemed to have had some time on the flattop or under a broiler before it came out which gives it an excellent texture and flavor.

You can get the traditional rice and beans with your order and there are red and green salsa as well. The green salsa is slightly tart and has only a little heat while the red salsa has a nice roasted pepper flavor but packs a punch that tends to linger for a while. As hot as it was, the red salsa is the perfect condiment for the potato and egg taco. Oh, and the tacos are only $1.85 each.

Aside from tacos Melis also offers tortas (sandwiches), Gorditas (somewhere between a sandwich and a taco) and some of the best burritos in town. Menudo and barbacoa are available on the weekend. Once you go you will see this is a no frills type place. The service is all provided via a walkup window and they are cash only. All items are prepared for takeout and there are a couple of picnic benches on the patio if you can find a seat. Mornings and lunchtime can get pretty busy but the food seems to come out pretty fast. So go have some tacos at Melis. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can’t go wrong. Don’t forget to grab a Mexican soda while you are at it.
