Chefs Line Up To Benefit Genesis Women’s Shelter December 19th

In May, I was asked to participate in a dinner benefiting Genesis.  I do charity events all the time but this time I really wanted to know what I was donating to.  I asked to have a private tour of the shelter and Chefs Carolanne Treadwell, Janice Provost and Dina Butterfield came with.   We were so pleasantly surprised to see that this place felt nothing like a shelter but more of a home.   A safe environment with apartments, schools, full cafeteria with 3 healthy meals being served daily.   They had therapy rooms and even a garden.  But we weren’t all smiles for long.

We entered a room they called the “kids therapy room”.  I envisioned my 3-year-old daughter speaking to someone about how to dial 911.  I lost it.  I knew then I would do my best to do what I could to help Genesis.  We all left with heavy hearts that day.  Now here we are in December and all I can think about is a woman having to leave their abusive situation during one of the happiest times of the year wondering how to provide gifts for their children.  That is why I reached out to anyone who would listen and be willing to help.
I have 12 chefs participating, including, Hatties, Uchi, Cedars Social, Pachi Pachi Cheese Co, BBbop, Resident Taqueria and many more.  All are donating their time and talent for one night.  We are also having an ugly sweater competition where the winner or loser in this case, takes a pretty cool prize.
We will be having an ugly sweater contest, the photo wagon, and  reps from That Ugly Sweater Store will have racks of sweaters ready to purchase.
Genesis does not receive government funding, or United Way funding.  They provide housing, education, food, clothing, EVERYTHING free of charge to their women and children.  The only way they can do this is by private funding and charities.
I’m very excited to be able to do this for Genesis and hoping for a great turn out!  I hope you can make it. The event is December 19th at 6pm in Trinity Groves. You may find Chef AQ at Oddfellows in Bishop Arts. You may reach AQ for your donation or to pitch in for the event by dropping her an email.
