Zaguan Bakery and Cafe is located at 2604 Oak Lawn and serves some extremely delicious and authentic South American dishes such as Ropa Vieja (beef stew and vegetables wrapped in empanada), Chachapa (a savory sweet corn turnover filled with choice of meat), Arroz con Pollo (the quintessential chicken and rice dish), tequenos (cheese sticks) and so much more. Enjoy these savory dishes from Venezuela and Argentina along with plenty of fantastic pastries with a beautiful French influence.
The chocolate croissant is unexpectedly one of the very best the city has to offer.
For a smattering of choice dishes order the sampler which has a selection of two tequeños (cheese sticks), two yuccas, two sweet fried plantains, two green fried plantains, and two empanadas (beef, chicken, cheese). A hearty meal that is enough to share (but you don’t have to).
