Located in what was previously the space for Pozo and Three Sheets, Next Door offers a unique experience both in dining and the latest party experience in Uptown Dallas. So you may enjoy the latest hot spot for bottle service in the upstairs party lounge, then merely a few hours later be hitting a splendid and imaginative brunch. And in Dallas we take our brunch just as serious as some do their bottle service.
The uniqueness about Next Door is that when you show up for brunch the next more, or afternoon, there are no signs of whatever may have happened the previous evening. In fact, the digs might remind you of your grandmother’s southern comforting lair.
But it is here for brunch that you will find incredibly attentive service, a well thought out menu executed to a near obsession, and some mighty fine cocktails tailored for recovery mode. Remember, brunch is as much a social event as it is sustenance.
This all results in one of the better brunches in Dallas. Labeled a “proper brunch”, we enjoyed Steak & Eggs (beef tenderloin, sunny egg, hash browns, red wine-roasted garlic sauce), House Smoked Salmon Sandwich (herb aioli, cucumber, red onion, smoked bacon, sunny farm egg on grilled baguette), and a Crab Benedict (cajun crab cake, poached eggs, provencal hollandaise and hash browns).
Choosing the very best of these can prove difficult, so we ordered more. We had a group of sharing friends so what is a few more dishes when you dine like this?
Enter the BFFFT (“Best F**kin’ Fried French Toast) which is made of a cream cheese stuffed cinnamon-raisin bread, pancake battered and fried, fresh berry compote, maple syrup and whipped cream. This is a perfect item to share with the table as a finale as it is not too sweet and portioned wonderfully for easy serving. This actually reminded us of a meatless Monte Cristo as it is fried instead of griddled, which gave the BFFFT a marvelous crispness and a sturdier canvas as to hold the ingredients together.
Cocktails are not an after-thought, with plenty to choose from which can make for a perfectly languid Sunday afternoon. Choose from the list of spirited bubble-infused delights such as the Champagne Colada made with Captain Morgan, coconut rum, homemade vanilla syrup, lime juice and Prossecco. Maybe the Strawberry Fields is more to your liking (it certainly was for us) made up of Effen Black Cherry Vodka, homemade strawberry syrup, lime juice, Chandon Rosé. Bubbles just make everything more festive.
