Sassetta Brings Lux to Design District

Tucked inside the Decorative Center at the corner of Oak Lawn and Hi Line Drive, Sassetta joins Wheelhouse and soon to open Go Go within the newly constructed 10,000-square-foot complex designed by the renowned Seattle-based architectural firm Olson Kundig.  Articulating the space is Center Court, a covered outdoor pavilion featuring the commissioned 18-foot sculpture Moving Figure by notable New York artist Daniel Arsham.

Open for dinner with breakfast and lunch forthcoming, Sassetta’s seasonal modern Italian menu features handcrafted pasta, house-cured meats, seafood and thin crust pizzas in a casual café atmosphere.  Complementing the rustic fare is a robust selection of wines from various regions in Italy, along with amari and simple, straightforward Italian cocktails.

Creative interpretations of modern and regional Italian cuisine include several shareable small plates ranging from salumi served with freshly made mozzarella, giardiniera and sourdough to yellowfin tuna crudo with fava bean, strawberry and Marcona almonds.  House-made semolina pastas are rolled or extruded in various shapes then perfectly dressed – from spaghetti with rock shrimp, Fresno chili and pistachio to a ramp tortelloni served in tomato broth with Parmesan.

Thin crust pizzas start with three-day fermented dough cooked at ultra-high temperatures to achieve their puffy, blistered crust.  Toppings include oyster mushroom, baby kale, mozzarella and chilies in addition to a flavorful combination of taleggio, Parmesan, black pepper and burnt honey.

With a contemporary take on romanticized European design and a subtle nod to Harry’s Bar in Venice, Sassetta will function as an all-day café for those looking for a full day of lingering or festive night out.  Reservations are accepted for the dining room, walk-in seating is available in the bar.

The final piece in the restaurant trio is grab-and-go concept Go Go, offering fresh roasted artisanal coffee from Counter Culture Coffee accompanied by a selection of daily house-baked goods, sandwiches, pizzas and entrees.  Go Go will serve as the hub for carryout orders from Wheelhouse and Sassetta, as well as function as an in-house delivery service to area residents and businesses.

Chefs Brian Zenner and Michael Sindoni lead the culinary teams and menu creation for all three concepts.
