What The Truck? Truck Pick Of The Week

truckby Steven Doyle

Food trucks have permeated our lifestyle and we are seeing them now so often we almost do not pay attention. In Texas Austin is the food truck Mecca, but we have our share in Dallas and they are doing some great things. Tasty things.

Sure, we can find the usual suspects at Klyde Warren Park, lined up dutifully dispersing good grub to the masses all week long, and the truck Yard has a constant rotation in their repertoire which keeps us on our toes, and there are other delicious hot spots across the city where you can scope out your favorites.  We have even seen trucks lined up for parties, often prepaid by the host, and this would include weddings and bar mitzvahs. Those are always good fetes.

Today we explore a handful of tasty trucks and what they might be offering that looks good for lunch in what we will now be calling “What The Truck?” a weekly look at some fun dishes on board some of our favorite food trucks.

truck not just q

Aboard the Not Just Q truck we will find some highly competitive brisket and ribs, and often an assortment of other surprises, thus the name. Recently this truck expanded to a duo truck operation and the second truck is massive in comparison to most. Not Just Q can be seen at the Greenville Avenue Truck Yard, but often doing private events because of the desirable menu.

truck ruthies

Ruthies Rolling Cafe is one of our favorites, especially when spotted late night due to their luscious cheesy sandwiches, some over-stuffed with pulled pork – and plenty of cheeses. Always spotted at Klyde Warren, but Ruthie has a small fleet to be found everywhere, including some of the poshest parties.

truck oh my kabob

Try something a bit different with Oh My Kabob truck including this lip smacking gyro. You will also spot kabobs on the menu (thus the name) and other fun items like a stacked club sandwich, nachos and falafal.

truck nammi taco

One of the early adopter trucks is Nammi, the Vietnamese taco truck that spreads love and so much more including rice bowls, tacos, banh mi and noodles. Nammi went a bit brick and mortar with the redo at the Dallas Farmers Market Shed 2, so find them there and always at Klyde Warren and a party near you.

truck gandolfos knuckle

Gandolfo’s is another truck that has a long history in Dallas and can be found often at Klyde Warren and buzzing about town doing their catering gig.  We love this mobile deli for their huge stuffed sandwiches, and bread that is heaven sent. Check out the Knuckle Sandwich that is packed with pastrami, melted cheeses and clasped between thick slices of sourdough.

truck cousins lobster

Cousin’s Maine Lobster gained success on Shark Tank and is now in every city you want to nosh a lobster roll. Good for them, and good for us! This truck gets a lot of play at Klyde Warren, but also can be found the Richardson Food Park and the Frisco Rail Yard.
