It is no secret that we are fans of Val’s Cheesecakes on Maple Avenue directly next door and semi attached to the Grapevine Bar. For the expanding fan base we have some exciting news, Val is opening on Greenville Avenue this Thursday in the building that Tacos y Mas recently vacated at 2820 Greenville in the same section as iconic restaurants such as The Grape, Blue Goose and much more.
The build-out is fun and simple with the same blue and white color scheme with the addition of a flourish of red hibiscus, the official flower of Haiti where Val was born. The colors are also an homage to his mother which when you speak to Val about cheesecake, color schemes are pretty much any of his life’s blessings he will almost always and appropriately mention her. She is his cheesecake inspiration, his muse.
The former city of Dallas engineer has plenty to be excited about. He will continue to operate the 250 square foot Maple Avenue location while enjoying the expansive Greenville Avenue store which has more storage, equipment and employees.
The new location will offer indoor seating, a cheesecake display cake showing off decorated items, soft drinks, kicked up coffee and tea, the usual slices, jars and whole cheesecakes and six dedicated parking spots (a premium for the neighborhood). The new offerings include a newly developed cheesecake brownie (yes, we sampled already) that is a brownie hybrid that incorporates Val’s famous cheesecake. Val has also developed a soft serve ice cream that uses his cheesecake batter. Simply delicious.
Consider your holiday catering and gifts at Val’s. He will also be offering corporate and wedding tastings in the new digs.
“For the grand opening we will be offering free queso gift cards from Blue Goose and free coffee from Halcyon for the first 75 guests,” mentioned owner Val Jean-Bart. He is also running a video contest where guests go to the new location and wax lovelies about cheesecake with the building in the backdrop. The winner receives $200 worth of gift certificates donated by eight neighboring restaurants. Post your one-minute videos on your Facebook, tag Val’s and three other friends to enter.
Yet another way to win big from Val’s is to grab his flyer and hold it up in line during the grand opening. If selected at random you will win a full-sized custom cheesecake to your specifications. That means anything you come up with Val will make that cheesecake. Many fun ideas come to our minds.
Val’s on Greenville will mirror the same hours as the shack on Greenville which is 12pm to 10pm each day.
