Guests of Al Biernat’s North have undoubtedly admired the breathtaking black and white photo of a lion on the prowl showcased above the new restaurant’s hostess stand.
This iconic photo was shot by David Yarrow, one of the most recognized photographers in the world. Yarrow’s evocative and immersive photography of life on Earth is most distinctive and it has earned him an ever-growing following amongst art collectors.
In celebration of Al Biernat opening his second Dallas restaurant, Yarrow gifted one of his limited-edition prints – Relentless– to the restaurateur. Relentless provided much of the inspiration behind the new restaurant’s design.
“My dear friends Anne and Steve are avid collectors of David’s photographs,” said Biernat. “They brought him in to dine at the Oak Lawn restaurant and we hit it off when I mentioned how much I appreciate the amazing photography in Netflix’s Tales by Light. He promised to send me something, and shortly after, I received an autographed copy of his latest book, Wild Encounters, which is just breathtaking. When he asked if there’s anything else I’d like, I told him that I’d love to hang one of his photographs over the maître d’ stand in our new restaurant. He chose to send me Relentless, stating that Al Biernat’s deserved a dramatic photo and that this spectacular piece perfectly embodied the steakhouse. He was right. Relentless is absolutely stunning and I’m thankful to have it as a centerpiece in our new restaurant.”
Yarrow not only takes stunning photos, he is a dedicated conservationist, having raised more than $1.2 million for charities in 2017. Wild Encounters was awarded “Art Book of 2017” by Amazon and all of the earnings from the book are donated to Tusk, the leading British NGO that focuses on animal conservation in Africa. Yarrow’s new photography, shot throughout 2017, has reached over $10 million in sales. His status as an artist and conservationist was confirmed in June 2017 when he was invited to a private lunch with President George W. Bush in Dallas.
