Restaurant Week Highlights: Adelmo’s

adelmo1by Steven Doyle

There are so many wonderful choices for Restaurant Week which began 21 years ago by Dallas’ most famous culinarian Jim White while he was working his restaurant show at KRLD. The very same Jim White who created Savor Dallas the magnificent food and wine extravaganza that grows stronger each year.

This week we wish to highlight a one of our favorite Restaurant Week choices by neighborhood starting in McKinney, Texas. Restaurant Week is a great way to become acquainted with new-to-you restaurants at a highly discounted cost with proceeds going to both the North Texas Food Bank and Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth. 2017 proceeds were in excess of $796,000, so this is an important event for both charities who do marvelous work for our communities.

The 3 or 4 prix fixe courses cost either $39 or $49, with lunches at $20.

Restaurant Week  continues through August 3rd with many restaurants adopting one, two or three weeks. Check this handy guide for details.

Today we look at the Restaurant Week menu at Adelmo’s, the family run Italian bistro that has been celebrating with Dallas for nearly thirty years. Adelmo moved his restaurant from its iconic digs off Knox, where it seems many wonderful long time restaurants are scattering from these days (rest in peace Highland Park Pharmacy). Adelmo found a marvelous space in the Iwood shopping center behind the theater at Inwood and Lovers and directly across from Rise No 1.

There you will find many of the family recipe dishes, the most amazing Italian version of escargot and a great wine selection. This is a restaurant that if you visit you will get a slice of the Adelmo Banchetti family life. His son is now in command in the kitchen using recipes from generations past. Adelmo’s lovely daughter can be found playing hostess (and accountant by day) and the man himself wandering the room to ensure your personal happiness. Most nights you may spot Adelmo’s wife Eliza joining the family with a variety of duties. So when you dine with Adelmo you are seriously supporting one of the city’s best Italian restaurants and Italian restaurant families.
