Pastry Chef Samantha Moss Has Your Pixie Pie Waiting For You

We seem to have an affinity for pastry at CraveDFW and today we visit with Samantha Moss, owner of Pixie Pies located in Oak Cliff. Although Pixie Pies is not a brick and mortar restaurant you may order from the unique pastry shop via Facebook, and what a fantastic time to enjoy these amazing pies and other beautiful pasties.

Moss comes to Dallas via New York and worked at Nick and Sam’s for many years creating pastries they still enjoy on the menu at the steakhouse. After taking a time out to take care of her daughter Moss suffered from an unusual brain affliction called chiari malformation. This causes brain tissue to settle into the spinal canal. After surgery she continued with Nick and Sam’s but last year she took off to form Pixie Pies.

The beautiful pastries are often made with dark chocolate, and her fat of choice is duck, although she does do some vegan recipes sans duck fat.

Stand outs in her current menu include a Bourbon Bacon Pecan that is a bit boozy with candied bacon, spiced pecans and a bourbon bacon crust. The beautiful pie pictured here is the Rosemary Caramel Apple made with a duck fat crust (why not!) thinly sliced apples and a rosemary caramel. Heavenly. There is also a German Chocolate Pie for those chocolate lovers you need to please at your holiday parties this season.

Look for the Bella, a cookie that is a tender, spicy rosemary base draped in a dark Mexican chocolate (more duck fat) with a sea salt finish. She also has one called the PMS Rx that is a dark chocolate (did we mention duck fat?) French lavender.

When Moss is not baking she is growing her own herbs and spices and also sources local eggs and other ingredients to create the perfect pastry for any occasion. She is super serious when chatting up her menu and for excellent reasons. Everything we have sampled was far and above anything like we have tasted before.

Make note of her email: ChefSam@PixiePiesDallas.com or you may text her at 214.681.8740 to place an order. See her menu on Facebook and enjoy. She is also available to supply your restaurant or shop with pastries, so do inquire.
