Last week, Cirque Du Soleil kicked off the Dallas leg of its Amaluna show tour. Performers in Amaluna brought to life classic Shakespearean tales and Greek and Roman myths from a female perspective.
Amaluna is currently running at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. Attendees of Amaluna will behold performances consisting of stunning, captivating visual elements. The openness of Lone Star Park venue helps to cultivate a sense of vulnerability, allowing the audience to feel overwhelmed with the emotion evoked in the performances.
Female empowerment is an overt motif in Amaluna. The cast of the Cirque Du Soleil show is 60 percent women, not to mention that the band is completely made up of women. The cast and band all add a divine, feminine touch to ancient myths and Shakespearean plays, most notably Shakespeare’s final play, The Tempest.
Amaluna also showcases a variety of gymnastics acts, like unicycling, maintaining balance on a set of wobbly bars, juggling, and emotionally captivating dance routines. While Amaluna maintains many of Cirque Du Soleil’s traditional elements and designs, the female-majority cast makes for an angelic response to America’s current political climate.
The show is an evening filled with magic, grace, and elegance, all of which are characteristics the performers embody. It is a tasteful, artful event that any lover of performing arts must have on their bucket lists.
