Alamo Club Opens on Greenville

Alamo Club – an upscale neighborhood restaurant and bar serving American classics in an old-school comfortable setting will open for dinner only on Wednesday, February 20.

Located at 1919 Lowest Greenville Avenue, restaurant veteran and owner, Austin Rodgers set out to create a restaurant that feels like a classic neighborhood favorite that’s been around for years. This is Rodgers’ first concept on his own after an impressive career with Nick & Sam’s and Nick Badovinus’ Flavor Hook restaurant group (Offsite Kitchen, Neighborhood Services, Town Hearth).

The shotgun space offers dining tables in a cozy area, a community high top table and bar serving unpretentious cocktails by seasoned pros. With brunch service beginning in the coming spring weeks, the recently renovated patio will be the perfect spot.

“Alamo Club is a place where everybody will know your name.” Rodgers continues, “The menu is simple with comfort food done well that guests know and want to eat. It’s crave-able food.”

Appetizers include Nancy’s Pink Dip, Rudolph’s in a Blanket, Ceviche, Steak Tartare, Tuna Crudo, Beet Salad, Club Wedge and more. Entrees offer a fresh fish option such as the Seared Snapper with Anson Mills rice polenta, carrot vichy and pan jus; House-made pastrami sandwich tagged the Smoky Rose with fontina, caramelized onions, kraut and Dijon; Prime NY Strip steak and freshly made pasta, Club Spaghetti with cherry tomato sauce, Grana Padona and basil. Most everything, when possible, is made fresh, in-house and daily.

The bar program focuses on cocktails using minimal ingredients, something for everyone and riffs on the classics such as the Stirred Not Shaken: Monkey 47, dry vermouth; Shaken not Stirred: vodka, gin, vermouth, orange bitters, lemon zest: Barrel Aged Old Fashioned: Sagamore Rye, sugar, black walnut bitter; Dar #4: Uruapan Charanda, lime, simple, Angostura; Not Tonight Mike: light and dark rum, citrus, orange, passion fruit, grenadine, Myers float; The Patio Banger: OGD Whiskey, lemon, cardamom, ginger beer and more. The wine program offers 50 selections of both Old and New World priced  well so guests can participate in a number of differing options.

Kyle Buckelew, Bar Manager:

Buckelew has been bartending in Dallas for more than 12 years most recently crafting cocktails at Los Almas Rotas and Cedars Social.  His beverage menu at the Alamo Club is cocktail forward with a collection of accessible cocktails with also paying homage to the classics and having a sense of humor. The menu features something for everyone with hurricanes, martinis, and gin and tonics made with Kyle’s own tonic to list a few.

Kyle Newberry, Chef: 

Chef Newberry spent the last 15 years traveling around the country seeking culinary experiences in Italian and Asian cuisines. Spending much of his time in Austin, most recently at Enotecas and Vespaio he has always been about quality over quantity and that ‘good food should have no rules’.   His methodology to the menu at the Alamo Club is approachable classics with a twist made with love and attention to detail.  His must try items are the Hot Beef 10-ounce prime NY strip sandwich, the roast bird and the fries with aioli.

Austin Rodgers, Owner: 

At only 33, Rodgers has lived an impressive career in the F&B space and has had a passion for the restaurant business his entire life. After cutting his teeth at a young age at a neighborhood Italian restaurant, he found his way to Nick & Sam’s where he worked his way up from server, to bartender to management. His career took flight when he connected with Nick Badovinus and the team at Flavor Hook working as the General Manager of Neighborhood Services on Lovers Lane and opening the Neighborhood Services in Addison. Austin was promoted to Senior Manager of Operations opening and managing concepts such as Offsite Kitchen, Montlake Cut, Town Hearth and Perfect Union Pizza.  With a goal of one day running his own restaurant, Austin was provided the opportunity in August of 2018 to sign a lease in the prime spot that would soon become Alamo Club.

Rodgers is clear in his dedication and vision of Alamo Club, “We are excited to be opening on Lowest Greenville, taking special care of the locals who live nearby. We want Alamo Club to be their home away from home. It’s big enough to come with a crowd, but still chill enough to bring a date. The bartenders are friendly, and the food and cocktails are funky, fast and tasty.”
