On Saturday, October 5, gather your best friend (of both the canine and human variety) and get to the Truck Yard for the fun-loving bar’s first ever “Best in Yard” Dog Show. Throughout the day, good times will abound, with food, drinks, adoption opportunities and dog-related art. And, while all dogs are good dogs, there will be an unusually cute contest to see which dog reigns supreme in Dallas.
Before the contest begins, all dogs are invited to participate in an art project. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., they can paint a Truck Yard bench with their paw prints, thereby leaving their mark in the best way possible.
The dog show kicks off at 3 p.m. and will consist of three rounds:
- Trick Round: If your dog can catch, dance or otherwise dazzle a crowd, this is their time to shine.
- Costume Round: We want to see your dog’s best outfit—bumblebee, fire hydrant, etc. Bring your cameras.
- Freestyle/Voting Round: Here, attendees will just vote for which dog they’re especially fond of. It will be difficult work and may involve evaluation through head scratches and belly rubs, but someone has to do it.
The winner will receive a $250 Truck Yard gift card, plus a “regal” print of their dog to take home and another to be hung upon the bar’s Dog Wall of Fame for an entire year. The winning pup will also be awarded with one free treat for every visit that their photo is on the wall, as well as a Best in Yard VIP water bowl that will be kept behind the bar specifically for their use. Those are some serious bragging rights.
In addition to the contest, local dog rescues will be attending with amazing doggos available for adoption. So, whether you’re currently puppy-free or outnumbered five-to-one, you’ll have an opportunity to go home with a new family member.
