Welcome Back, Big Tex

Even in the absence of the 2020 State Fair of Texas, everyone’s favorite 55-foot-tall cowboy is resuming his post as the official State Fair of Texas ambassador for his 68th year. Our beloved Texas icon, Big Texreturns to his rightful home on Wednesday, September 16 starting at 10 a.m. in Big Tex Circle. Due to safety concerns related to COVID-19, this year’s Big Tex installation is only open to media, not to the general public.

Big Tex has been in quarantine like most of us, so he is eager to greet fairgoers for this year’s unique set of events – the Big Tex Photo Drive-Thru and Big Tex Fair Food Drive-Thru. As a true Texan, Big Tex will do his part to keep the community safe by adding the latest accessory to his get-up for 2020 – a Big Tex-sized face mask. His mask checks in at 84 inches by 45 inches, or approximately seven feet by four feet. In a year of many firsts, these historic events will offer Fair lovers the opportunity for a once-in-a-lifetime photo and experience with Big Tex.

There will be State Fair of Texas representatives present and available for interviews. Please contact the State Fair PR office for any special requests – 214.289.3318.
